Dr Lizarraga-Madrigal studied the potential analgesic interactions between aspirin-like drugs and NMDA receptor systems at the spinal cord level. He carried out a series of studies. The studies’ objectives involved identifying drug combinations that would control pain in a more efficient way and produce less side effects compared to individual drugs. Using electrophysiological and behavioural techniques, his research showed that combinations of ketoprofen, ketamine and L-NAME may be useful for controlling pain and producing less side effects compared to using each individual drug. These findings may be of clinical relevance for both animals and humans
